2017 Ford Bronco – It is probably one of the most loved Ford models out there and when rumors emerged that the company was going to build a new one based on the F-150 truck, many people shown interest in it. However, in the first half of March 2015 Ford finally responded to these rumors and they stated that a production Bronco is currently not on their work bench. Does this mean that they are never going to build one or just that they are going to release a model some time in the future? Well, considering that Jeep is starting to gain more and more market share with their Wrangler, Ford has no real competitor for that car which also means that they are losing against one of their major competitors, the Chrysler&Fiat Group.
2017 Ford Bronco Launch Date
This leads us to believe that despite the fact that they dismissed a potential Bronco, the car might actually come on the market, even though it will not come as the 2017 Ford Bronco everyone was waiting for. In fact, the vehicle might see the light of day some time in 2018 or 2019, in time for the new Wrangler, allowing Ford to negate some of that car’s success. The price is still unknown at this point but the car would have to cost less than $30,000 in order to be competitive.
Considering it would have to compete with one of the best off-road cars out there, the next model would definitely use a body-on-frame construction which would allow Ford to develop the car in an off-road machine. Unlike the F-150 though, this 2017 Ford Bronco would likely use a sheet-metal body made out of steel rather than aluminum because in off-road the chance of hitting it is very high and the aluminum body would not make sense. On top of that, the fuel consumption could easily be solved with smaller and more efficient engines.
Possible Engine Options, Specs
In fact, the 2017 Ford Bronco SUV would make use of a diesel engine as the base mill. This would provide anything between 250 and 300 horsepower and more than 450 lb-ft of torque. While it may not sound like much, considering it is a diesel, all that torque would be available from as low as 1200 rpm, so the car would not only be the perfect tow vehicle, but it would also be great in off-road where torque is a lot more important than horsepower. This would not be the only engine choice though. If it ever goes into production, the new Bronco is also expected to come with two petrol engines, a 2.3L EcoBoost delivering 280 horsepower and more than 340 lb-ft of torque, while the other choice includes a 3.5L EcoBoost able to produce 340 horsepower and about 420 lb-ft of twist. Both of these would use more fuel than the diesel engine, but both of them would be faster on the road.
New SVT Bronco Exterior & Interior Design
The exterior of the so-called 2017 Ford Bronco is still unknown, but there are a few hints about how it may look like, as you can see from the photos posted above. In fact, there are two different concepts, one released back in 2004 by Ford and one released at the end of 2014 by an online publication. Both of these suggest a medium-size car that could use the suspension technology from the Raptor in the more expensive applications. The base truck would likely be quite simple with simple shocks and springs as well as a live axle at the back and independent suspension in the front. This would allow for good suspension travel without sacrificing on-road comfort. The interior of it on the other hand would look like nothing else in Ford’s current lineup with few controls and a center mounted screen that could act as the control unit for most of the functions.
These are all just speculations based on the recent rumors, and photos posted above are just renderings based on the Atlas pickup truck. However, Ford should really consider releasing the 2017 Ford Bronco in order to stay competitive with the Chrysler&Fiat Group, which is going to release the 2018 Jeep Wrangler in the upcoming years.
