2016 Scion iM

The Scion brand didn’t go unnoticed at the 2015 New York Auto Show, with its two new cars, the iA sedan and the iM hatchback. The 2016 Scion iM is basically a twin brother of the Toyota Auris and Corolla wagon, and with also a part of the DNA from the Lexus CT 200h. This cooperation is allowing Scion to offer more user content in this hatchback rather than wasting time and money in research and development. The engine comes from the Corolla Eco, together with the CVT and 6-speed manual. But, the iM isn’t just a pale copy, despite having the same engine, it actually does have a better fuel economy than the Corolla Eco.

Exterior and Interior Appearance

Origins of the 2016 Scion iM are clearly visible in its body style. In the front, the grille, lower fascia, and hood slope are all already seen. Like on the Toyota Corolla and Auris, the big raked windshield goes back into the hatch, in a curve. The D-pillars have a similar look with the Lexus CT 200h, but if you put the two cars one beside the other, you will see that they are actually very different. At the back, there is a large rear bumper with ground effects and a faux-diffuser. Futuristic backlights are set high on the rear, making them safe from the danger of the bad calls when the reverse parking is used.

Furthermore, the modern 17-inch alloy wheels add a bit of a high class look to the overall outside appearance, as do the body-color matched door handles, mirror caps and a shark-fin antenna. We also have to mention that the 2016 Scion iM comes standard with the power-folding, power-glass mirrors that are heated. When it comes to colors, the car has 6 different in offering: Classic Silver Metallic, Blizzard Pearl, Spring Green Metallic, Black Sand Pearl, Barcelona Red Metallic, and Electric Storm Blue (shown on the photos).

As far as the interior is concerned, those who are familiar with the inside look of the Corolla, will immediately recognize interior design of the new iM. Despite the few changes that were made, the dashboard pretty much looks the same and feels that way as well. In the center there is a 7-inch infotainment screen with Toyota’s Entune system. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity, USB charging and aux inputs. We also have to mention that the HVAC system is upgraded with dual zone climate controls, and the digital readout contributes to a more high-tech feeling. That high-tech feeling is carried onto the driver’s gauge cluster, with a 4.2-inch TFT display that shows, in a multi-page layout, the vehicle stats and radio information.

The backseat room is capable of offering comfort for two adults. Also, the seats fold flat 60/40 style for making massive extra cargo space. Furthermore, the 2016 Scion iM also comes standard with a list of safety features, that include an integrated Whiplash Injury Lessen feature for the front seats, and 8 airbags fitted around the cabin. The airbags include a driver’s knee airbag and a front-passenger seat-cushion airbag, as well as the two main dashboard airbags and side curtain airbags. For the customers that plan to give their pets a ride, Scion is offering its pet-friendly features that can be fitted in this hatchback. Those features include seat covers, dog harnesses, door panel guards, and a “grass pad” that is supposed to keep dogs from standing on the center console.
