The 2016 Opel Corsa OPC is a high-performance variant of the popular hatchback with more engine power, that will be presented at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. In Britain it is known as the Vauxhall Corsa VXR. Keep reading to learn what General Motors and Opel have to offer.
Exterior and Interior Styling
Compared to the base model, the 2016 Opel Corsa OPC is quite similar, but there are still some differences between these two models. The OPC also share similarities with the Opel Adam. The front end comes with a revised grille, new headlights, scooped hood and bumper with larger air intakes surrounded by aluminum frame. The rear end features a new diffuser with two Remus exhaust pipes, and trunk lid with integrated roof spoiler. The hatchback rides on a set of 17-inch wheels wrapped in 215/45 R17 Michelin tires and is colored in the Flash Blue paint. An optional Performance Package adds 18-inch alloys, Brembo brakes, sport suspension, and Drexler locking differential.
Inside, the 2016 Opel Corsa OPC is equipped with the Recaro front bucket seats covered in leather with contrast stitching. Thanks to these seats, the passengers who sit behind have more legroom. In front of a driver is a multifunctional steering wheel with flat bottom, and instrument cluster with analog gauges and small digital screen between them. Below the air vents is a color display with IntelliLink infotainment system, which supports both the iPhone/iPad and Android devices. Both the wheel and shifter are lined in leather.
ECOTEC Engine, Performance
The 2016 Opel Corsa OPC is powered by a 1.6L I-4 ECOTEC engine with turbochargers and over-boost function. This unit can deliver 207 horsepower and up to 206 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque. The power is transferred to the front axle via a 6-speed manual transmission. The car can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour (~100 km/h) in 6.8 seconds, while its maximum speed is 143 mph (about 230 km/h).
2016 Opel Corsa OPC Release Date
At this moment, no official details were given on the hatchback‘s release date nor price. It will most likely arrive in the retail stores by the end of this year, but it will certainly make an appearance at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show this March. Its British counterpart, the 2016 Vauxhall Corsa VXR, will be released in United Kingdom on May 2015.
