The 2016 Mercedes C-Class Plug-In Hybrid is said to go on sale during next year. A prototype model was spotted on the streets in Stuttgart, so we know how the car will look like.
2016 Mercedes C-Class Plug-In Hybrid Design
Given that the model spotted on the streets wears no camouflage, the 2016 Mercedes C-Class Plug-In Hybrid is most likely in the final stages of development. This is how the actual production model might look like when it goes on sale under the name of 2016 Mercedes-Benz C350e, and it is not much different than the standard 2015 model. The front end has a standard sedan grille located between very attractive headlights. Mercedes-Benz logo is positioned on the hood, rather than on the grille. The rear end also remain the same, the only difference is an electric socket cap positioned below the right taillight, which will be used for sedan’s charging.
A photographer also managed to take a shot of the car’s interior. The 2016 Mercedes C-Class Plug-In Hybrid will have a luxury cabin, equipped with modern technology and comfortable seats. Actually, it is not much different compared to the cabin of the standard model which runs only on gasoline. As you can see, the dashboard, instrument cluster, steering wheel and center console remain the same, and there is an 8.4-inch infotainment screen with navigation system. Everything looks great. The only bad thing is that by increasing the passenger space and adding a battery pack in the back, the storage area has been decreased, offering less space for the luggage.
Engine and Performance Rumors
There are no official details on the engine that will be powering the new 2016 Mercedes C-Class Plug-In Hybrid, so take the following rumors with a grain of salt. As some sources claim, the Mercedes-Benz C350e will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0L I-4 petrol engine that will most likely deliver 208 horsepower, more or less. It will be combined with an 80-hp electric motor that will get its power from a 6.2-kWh Li-ion battery pack. This motor is going to be integrated with a 7G-Tronic automatic transmission. It is also said that the new C350e will be able to operate in electric mode only. Its expected driving range in this mode is between 20 and 30 miles. There will also be a mode that will use regenerative braking system to charge the battery while driving. Also expect improved fuel efficiency and zero CO2 emissions.
