The redesigned 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster will be presented to the public at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. It will be powered by the SkyActiv technology, rumored to produce about 155 horsepower. Expect it to be released this summer.
Exterior and Interior Design
The fourth-generation 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is a convertible coupe with two seats, distinguished by the KODO design language, which is characterized by a muscular appearance and curved lines. It is lighter than the outgoing model by 220 pounds (~100 kg), thanks to the use of lightweight aluminum, which is going to have a positive impact on its performance. Most of the body is made of steel. According to a leaked brochure, the roadster will be available in several color options in the domestic market: Soul Red Premium Metallic, Dynamic Blue Mica, Sunflower Yellow, Jet Black Mica, Snow Flake White Pearl Mica, and Meteor Gray Mica. These names may be changed for other markets.
Designers decided to move the coupe‘s cabin rearward and to lower the two sports seats. The interior of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is driver-focused, all the commands are easy accessible. The instrument panel and center console are wrapped in soft-touch materials. Behind the new three-spoke wheel is a middle-positioned tachometer. Above the round air vents is a infotainment screen and modern audio system.
SkyActiv Engine and Performance
In Japan, its domestic market, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will be powered by 1.5L SkyActiv-G inline-4 engine that will be producing 129 horsepower (96 KW) and 111 lb-ft (150 Nm) of torque. However, given that it is going to be much lighter, its performance should be improved over the ongoing model. In the United States, rumors suggest that the car is going to receive a 2.0L SkyActiv four-cylinder engine, which will supposedly be able to deliver 155 horses and 150 pound-feet of twist, according to the 2015 Chicago Auto Show web page. Customers will have a choice of both manual and automatic transmission with six speeds. The roadster is going to be available in RWD configuration.
