The 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo has been unveiled in South Korea, its domestic market. It received a fresh new design, but performance figures remain the same. The hatchback is expected to make a debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, where we will learn more details.
2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Design
The facelift include just minor updates of both the interior and exterior. Outside, the 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo comes with the new chrome trim that surrounds the hexagonal grille, updated headlights and fog lights, and different pattern of the 18-inch alloy wheels. And that’s about it. All other body design features remain the same, including the front bumper, hood, doors, taillights and rear diffuser with a pair of integrated exhaust tips.
Inside, the 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo receives a new leather-trimmed steering wheel, revised instrument cluster with new gauges, new button graphics, Beats audio system, and new sporty seats available with gray, blue and dark orange accents.
Engine, Performance, Fuel Economy
A 1.6L T-GDi Inline-4 engine powers the new 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo producing 201 horsepower (some sources claim it can deliver 204 hp) and 195 lb-ft of torque. European variants can deliver only 186 horses. It is paired with a brand-new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. A 6-speed manual will also be offered. What I find very interesting is the addition of an electric engine sound equalizer, which allows you to adjust the engine noise. You can choose between six different sounds. Given that the specs are the same, fuel economy rating should remain 27/38 mpg city/highway for the models with the manual transmission, while the variants with the automatic will most likely return better numbers.
Veloster Release Date and Price
The redesigned 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo will hit the retail stores in the second half of 2015. In South Korea, its domestic market, the car is priced at ₩27.3 million, which is about $25,000. In the United States, the current model with manual gearbox costs $22,600, while the model with automatic transmission is priced at $23,600. The new model will most likely be priced a few thousand bucks more. More details should be known after the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.
