Honda is calling its 2016 Honda Civic Type R the most extreme car it has ever built. If you are looking for a car that is sporty in both design and performance, this model will serve you best. The look of the 2016 Honda Civic Type R is guided by the need to provide ventilation and cooling to its powerful engine. It features a large split grille to ensure better cooling, large rear wing, deep side skirts, flat underside, and some vents in the front wheels proximity. The vents in the redesigned front bumper and vertical side wings help to greatly reduce turbulence at the front wheels, therefore reducing drag, and also control airflow around the front tires. The interior is equipped with the sporty bucket seats in the front, wrapped in red-black fabric, which are very comfortable, providing lateral and back support. In front of a driver is a steering wheel wrapped in leather with red stitches and trims. Behind it is an instrument cluster with three analog gauges, glowing red. Actually, there is a lot of red accents all around the cabin, to match the exterior stripes and other details also painted in red. A gear lever of the 2016 Honda Civic Type R is made of aluminum alloy and fits in hand perfectly. The dashboard has a color display used to show important information and for the entertainment. There is also another, smaller screen above the instrument cluster, showing additional info.
Engine, Specs, Performance
Power of the 2016 Honda Civic Type R comes from a turbocharged 2.0L VTEC I-4 engine with direct injection producing up to 306 horsepower (310 PS) and 295 pound-feet (400 Nm) of torque. This engine delivers unmatched performance compared to the previous models, including the NSX Type R super car which hit the market back in 1990’s. The Honda is the first to benefit from a turbo charger, which helps in boosting low-end power delivery. Combined explosively with the high-end performance that is synonymous to VTEC technology, it delivers a breathtaking delivery of power experience. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, allowing the car to achieve a 0-62 mph sprint in less than six seconds. Top speed is said to be 167 miles per hour (270 km/h). The engine is also said to be more fuel efficient and puffs out less CO2.
The new Type R is the most advanced and dynamic due to the engineering innovations and enhancements made. Just a press of a button can activate +R mode heightening the engines responsiveness and upgrading the torque-mapping to a more aggressive and better performing focused settings. It also adds firmness and agility to all four point adaptive damper system, which has been specifically designed for this model. It has the capacity to manipulate the front wheels firmness and rear dampers automatically depending on the driving condition. It mechanical system of the steer axis minimizes torque steer and assist in improving the front end traction. The Honda promises exceptionally high levels of down force and high speed stability.
Type R Release Date, Price
According to the automaker, the new 2016 Honda Civic Type R will be available for sale soon. There will be two models — the base one will have a starting price of £29,995, which is about $46,900 at the current rates, while the more sporty GT variant is going to cost £32,295, that’s almost $50,500, and will be available with some extra equipment.
