After its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show we finally have some details on the upcoming 2016 Acura NSX hybrid sports car, set to be released in mid 2015. Keep reading to learn all the details.
Exterior and Interior Design
The production model is quite similar to the 2013 concept. The two cars share the same front grille and massive air intakes, however the 2016 Acura NSX has a new front splitter, reshaped hood with two air vents, and thinner headlights consisting of six smaller LED lamps and one stripe. Viewed from the side, you can notice bigger side vents behind the doors, smaller vents behind the front fenders, different door shape. The coupe rides on the front-mounted 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 245/35Z tires, while the 20-inch rear alloys are wrapped in 295/30Z tires. The rear end is different, there are four middle-mounted exhaust tips protruding from the rear diffuser. Honda also added thin spoiler above the taillights, which share the same design with the ones found on the concept model.
As you can see from the image below, the 2016 Acura NSX comes with a minimalist interior, which means that its dashboard doesn’t feature many buttons. All you need can be found on the multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles. Behind it is a digital TFT instrument cluster. Climate controls can be found on the center console, below the infotainment screen, and there’s a rotary knob for driving mode selection. Seats and center console are wrapped in leather and partly in Alcantara, while the rest of the red and black cabin features some aluminum accents.
Hybrid Engine, Specs, Performance
Honda said that the new 2016 Acura NSX will be powered by the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system. It includes a 3.5L twin-turbo V-6 engine, one rear-mounted electric motor paired with a 9-speed DC automatic transmission, and two additional motors driving the front axle. The whole system is reportedly able to deliver more than 550 horsepower. There are four driving modes: Quiet, Sport, Sport+ and Track. Each of them involves specific configuration for the gasoline and electric engines, transmissions and suspension.
2016 Acura NSX Release Date, Price
According to a reliable source, all units that were available in pre-sale are already sold out in the United Kingdom. But don’t worry, the NSX hybrid will go on sale during the summer of 2015. The exact price tag is not known at this moment, however some rumors claim that the pricing in the United States could start at about $150,000. There is also a word that the version with Honda emblem (2016 Honda NSX) is going to be presented in March at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
