The 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf is an all-electric vehicle, which is already available in Europe, and will go on sale in the U.S. in November of 2014 for $35,445. Let’s say something about e-Golf’s design and performance.
Design of 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf EV
Well, the 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf is quite similar to the other Golf models, such as the GTE or TDI models, but it comes with some of its own unique exterior features. Volkswagen announced that this electric vehicle will have the LED headlamps on the front, which is not a usual feature for these vehicles. In each corner of the revised front bumper you can notice the new C-shaped daytime running lights. The bumper also have a wide air intake. LED lights can also be found on the back. The rest of the car is similar to the other Golfs, but on the back there is no exhaust tips, because this is an EV.
Interior Styling and Equipment
The interior of the 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf is not much different compared to the interior of the base Golf model, but it does have some distinctive features. For example, the instrument panel received a minor facelift, and there is a new 8-inch color display in the center part of the dashboard, which comes with a GPS navigation. There is a smaller display behind the steering wheel that shows motor and battery details. You can also find a lot of blue stitching all over the cabin.
Electric Motor, Specs, Performance
Under the hood, the new 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf has en electric motor powered by a Li-ion battery pack hidden under the seats, producing up to 115 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque. This power unit will allow the car to accelerate from the point of rest to the 62 mph in about 10 seconds. Not bad, given that this is an all-electric vehicle. Its top speed is 86 mph (which is about 140 km/h) and it can travel up to 118 miles (190 kilometers) on a single charge.
In order to increase battery life, there are several driving modes: Normal, Eco, Eco+. The second mode is used to limit the power to 93 hp and 162 lb-ft of twist, lowering the top speed to 71 mph (115 km/h). The last mode drops the power even more, to a total of 73 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque, limiting the max speed to 55 mph (90 km/h).
2015 VW e-Golf Price, Release Date
The good thing is that the new 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf will be available in the United States this November. The bad thing is that it will be available only in a SEL Premium trim level. That means that those customers who want to buy this electric vehicle should pay more money for it than they would usually pay for the regular model. It’s base price tag will be $35,445, without the delivery. It is already available in Europe for the starting price of 34,900 euros.
