The 2015 Toyota Aygo was developed on idea that this car is for the younger generations and Toyota wanted to make the car even more appealing to the young, but, at the same time fun to drive. First Toyota Aygo was launched 10 years ago, in 2005. At the moment, it was the first compact city car that Toyota has ever produced and they did not know what to expect from their first ever car in that segment. Another interesting thing is that Toyota developed this car in collaboration with PSA Group (Peugeot Citroen group) and it was also sold under the names Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1.
The exterior of the 2015 Toyota Aygo is definitely unique. One of the details that you will surely notice are the two black lines that are crossing at the center of the front of the hatchback, creating a large “X”. The Japanese manufacturer wanted to show off this detail so much, that the official images of the car, that were published online, feature the new Aygo only in bright colors. But, this is not the only unusual thing about the exterior – Toyota went one step further and they decided to enable the customers to customize their model – according to the site of the manufacturer, there are 10 things on the exterior that can be customized (some include changing physical parts, while other just the change of color). Lots of parts can be customized by just switching color – diffuser, front and rear bumper decal, “X” on the front, front extension, roof decal and side skirts.
The interior of 2015 Toyota Aygo is dominated by the large trapezoidal center console and the designers have used this shape throughout the whole interior, so door trim, air vents and the surrounding of the gear lever is in the same shape. It is obvious that they have taken the same approach to the design of the interior, just like they did for the exterior. Whole interior is modern and it will be very interesting to the younger drivers. The large touch screen display that is located in the center of the dashboard is used for controlling music, satellite navigation (which is optional, because this is a cheap car) and infotainment system. The Japanese manufacturer worked a lot on the comfort of the interior (which was the biggest complaint for the previous model) and they have done lots of changes that should help the driver and the passengers feel more comfortable, even during the longer trips.
Engine, Specs, Fuel Economy
The power is not important in this segment. The 2015 Toyota Aygo will be offered only with 1.0L 3-cylinder DOHC engine with 12 valves that produces around 70 horsepower. The maximum speed will be around 100 mph and it should go from 0 to 60 in about 14 seconds. The car will be offered with 5-speed manual and x-shift automatic transmission. This power unit emits between 95 and 97 g/km of CO2, while its fuel economy is rated at 68.9 mpg (European rating).
