The 2015 Peugeot Quartz Hybrid Concept model was unveiled last year at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. It previews the next-generation of SUV hybrids. We hope some of the future models will be based on this concept. Let’s see what it has to offer.
2015 Peugeot Quartz Hybrid Concept Design
As the French manufacturer likes to describe it, the new 2015 Peugeot Quartz Hybrid Concept is a vehicle that looks like an SUV from the outside, but has a cabin of a sedan. As you can notice in the photos, the B-pillar is missing, giving the car a sleeker look. It was done to improve aerodynamics and performance. The concept rides on the big 23-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 305 mm Continental tires, and has the scissor doors, instead of the conventional ones. The front end looks aggressive with those mean LED headlights, small front grille with a lion badge in the center, and large air intakes above the front bumper. The hood is bulky and has small openings for improved engine cooling. There is a two-part spoiler wing mounted on the glass roof. There is eight vertically aligned LED lamps making each of the taillight, which looks quite cool. The rear bumper is large and bulky. A pair of two exhaust tips is barely visible, it is nicely integrated in the bumper.
Inside, there are four seats instead of five, and each passenger will get its own sports bucket seat. The cabin is trimmed in a combination of leather and basalt materials. The steering wheel is unusually designed, taking a shape of a rounded rectangle. It has come controls letting you to change the driving modes or shift gears. In front of a driver is a head-up display with digital instrument panel. One of the useful features is an optical system, connected to the front cameras. Those cameras are connected with the satellite navigation to read the road surface ahead to prepare the driver for any sort of a terrain. It is such a useful feature.
Hybrid Powertrain, Specs, Performance
The 2015 Peugeot Quartz Hybrid Concept is said to be powered by a 1.6-litre 4-cylindre engine paired with two 85-kW electric motors, each driving one axle. The petrol engine can deliver 266 horsepower (199 kW) and 243 pound-feet (330 Nm) of torque. The automaker claims that this hybrid system can produce a total of 495 horsepower (369 kW). Power is transferred to all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The whole system is powered by a 400 V Li-ion battery pack. The SUV supports three driving modes – ZEV, Road mode, and Race mode. ZEV is using electricity only and in this mode the car can travel up to 31 miles between battery charges. Road mode uses the petrol engine and the front-mounted electric motor; during this time the battery will charge. Race mode adds the rear electric motor to the mix for the best performance.
Peugeot Quartz Release Date
The 2015 Peugeot Quartz Hybrid Concept will be showcased at the upcoming 2014 Paris Motor Show this October. However, there is no word if this plug-in hybrid SUV will ever enter into the production and go on sale. But, some of its features might be used for the future SUV’s. We will know more details on October 4th.
