After the initial release of the Adam family it was obvious that Opel had bigger plans with it. Well, these plans finally came forward after the announcement of the 2015 Opel Adams S, the sports version of the already great Adam. Even though its dimensions might point that it will be competing with the Fiesta ST, in fact Opel clearly stated that the Adam doesn’t need to be its competitor but just a smaller car that it’s simply great on the road. Just like the name suggests, the S should give it quite a few improvements over the base model and not just a slightly more powerful engine.
Interior and Exterior Design
On the interior things are going to be as lively as ever. Standard features of the 2015 Opel Adam S include electronic climate control, a very good infotainment system which can pair with most phones out there and that can control a lot of the car’s functions as well as a 7-inch touch display which can also be used as a navigation system. There is also an option to integrate iPhones and iPads, as well as the Android devices. The seats will be replaced with sportier ones which are going to offer better lateral support as well as a nicer fit to the previous ones.
The outside of the 2015 Opel Adam S on the other hand is stylized in such a manner that people will still know that it is an Adam. The body will remain virtually unchanged with the only difference being the two tonne color scheme with silver as the base and orange as the accents on the roof. In the front of the car, the difference consists out of the different set of headlights which will now use LED daytime running lights as standard.
Opel is also going to work on the hatchbacks‘s chassis in order to make it better to drive as well as they are going to tweak its design. Both the front and rear tracks are going to be around 10 to 20 mm wider in order to give it better stability in the corners, while the car will sit lower to the ground. This should make it as good as the other hot hatchbacks on the market but with a small plus for the Adam, its design. Unlike the base model, the 2015 Opel Adam S will get an OPC braking system which will have 320 mm rotors in the front with 4 piston calipers while at the back the usual drums are going to be replaced with 264 mm rotors. The suspension system is going to be the same to the base model in the front but with a different set of shocks while at the back this is going to be changed to a suspension system more similar to what the Corsa has to offer rather than the base Adam.
Engine, Specs, Fuel Economy
Under the hood of the 2015 Opel Adam S is a brand new 1.4L I-4 engine with turbochargers, as well as a new 6-speed manual gearbox which drives the front wheels via a limited slip differential. The engine itself is a modified version from the Astra and it is good for 150 horsepower (110 kW) and 220 Nm (~162 lb-ft) of torque, which should make the hatchback quite lively. In fact, the maximum top speed has been announced to be 210 km/h or roughly 125 miles per hour, and with a 0 to 62 mph time of about 8 seconds, it should be quite fun to drive. The best part about the engine though is that its fuel economy is rated at 50 miles per gallon (combined), which is quite a feat considering it’s using petrol as its fuel. CO2 emissions are rated at 139 g/km.
2015 Opel Adam S Release Date, Price
The 2015 Opel Adam S was actually unveiled back in November 2014 at the Motor Show in Paris, but the car wasn’t available for sale until March 2015, most likely because the company wanted to release on the market a near perfect car. In some markets, such as Great Britain, it is known as the 2015 Vauxhall Adam Grand Slam. Its price is £16,995.
