The new 2015 Nissan Silvia S16 (240SX) is expected to hit the market by the end of this year. The concept model made an appearance at the 2014 Tokyo Motor Show. Although less popular, this model is expected to become a hit in the upcoming months.
Exterior, Interior, Features
The 2015 Nissan Silvia S16 appears to be smaller in size compared to its previously released model. Its look will be upgraded from its previous appearance. It will somewhat resemble the new Nissan Z coupe. About its interior design, not many details have been released as the company has kept secret some of the car’s details. Spies that noticed the prototype model report that this car will have enough room for 5 adults for them to sit comfortably. It is also expected to come with the standard utilities and equipment such as the satellite navigation, infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, and quality audio system, besides others.
Engine, Specs, Performance
Compared to its previous model, the 2015 Nissan Silvia S16 will have a smaller engine of 2.0 liters in displacement. It will share some mechanical components with the Nissan Juke, which is equipped with a 1.6-liter inline-4 turbo engine-code-named the MR16DDT. The new power unit will be able to produce up to 200 horsepower and 217 lb-ft of torque, which is good for a family car or even something much superior.
According to some publications sourced at the company, it looks like this rear-wheel driven coupe will be fitted with the 2.0l engine that is built by an alliance of Nissan and Renault engineers. With its unmatched torque, the new Silvia coupe will be the first off the line and will possibly be able to beat the FS-R/BRZ in a 0-60km/h sprint.
The other engine option that is a possibility it the 1.8-liter unit based on Mercedes-Benz that powers the C180 presently. This is an absolutely feasible option as Nissan and Mercedes have built an engine and also a platform-sharing-partnership. The 1.8l turbo engine is able to produce up to 156 horsepower and over 184 pound-feet of torque; peaking from 1600 RPM to 4200 RPM. If the new model is not fine tuned to produce at least 200 horsepower, this will definitely see the car drop a step behind its Subaru and the Scion FS-R rivals.
