The Range Rover Sport was never a slow car but among the enthusiasts it was regarded as one of the biggest and less responsive SUVs on the market and it was usually bought only by people who liked how it looked and not really how it drove. However, this is going to change with the release of the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR which is the super sport version of the base model. It is offered as a different model and includes a few upgrades which are meant to make it as sport as it sounds.
Exterior and Interior Redesign
The exterior is going to be quite similar to the normal Sport model with several differences. The 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR will be offered with a set of 22-inch wheels with all seasons tires or with the optional high performance tires. At the back the car will get a new quad-exhaust system with a larger diameter and control valves, which will offer the same sound note as that of the F-Type, meaning the SVR will sound like thunder. The automaker added a roof spoiler above the tailgate. The front grille and bumper with large air intakes are also new.
Another major difference between the 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR and the base model is the rear sub-frame of the car which will now get stiffer bushings, as well as a slightly different suspension system which will allow it to stay leveled even in the toughest corners. Besides this, the chassis will remain virtually identical to the Sport model, meaning that it will be still very comfortable and thanks to the massive 9.3 inches of clearance, it should be also quite usable off-road, an aspect which most current super SUVs are missing.
Inside, on the other hand, there are not going to be many changes. In fact, the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR will offer the same basic equipment level as the top of the range model, meaning that it will offer all the commodities and equipment as standard. Leather, aluminum, wood or even carbon fiber trims are going to be available, as well as the 19-speaker surround audio system which has been voted as one of the best in any current production car. The adjustable leather-wrapped seats in the front and performance seats in the back will offer better comfort. It also receives digital instrument cluster, infotainment system and other gadgets.
Engine, Specs, Performance
Engine wise, the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR is going to get a supercharged 5.0L V-8 engine which is very similar to that on the base model. However, this time it will make 550 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of torque which is a nice 10% boost over the standard car. Thanks to this power, the SUV will be able to hit 60 mph in as low as 4.1 seconds and to have a limited maximum top speed of 162 mph, which is still faster than a lot of cars out there.
Just like with the usual model, the engine is going to be mated to an 8-speed auto gearbox, but this time with a software update it will offer a 50% shorter gear change time. All wheel drive is going to be standard and so are going to be the two limited slip differentials which can send power to each individual wheel. The most impressive thing about it is that the SVR managed to get a lap around the Nurburgring in 8 minutes and 14 seconds, making it the fastest SUV ever on that track.
2015 Range Rover Sport SVR Price
When it comes to the release date, sales of the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR started in October 2014, with deliveries set for early 2015. The starting price will be high, costing more than most other SUVs out there. The price tag of $110,475 in the US is going to be similar only to the Cayenne Turbo S.
