Here’s the new special Carbon Edition of the 2015 Donkervoort D8 GTO sports car. The body shape reminds a little bit of an old fashion car, but since it’s coming in all-black, overall this model looks amazing. The company has used carbon fiber in previous models, but the D8 GTO is almost completely made of the composite material. This move was made to cut the weight and to simplify the design, while paying attention to every detail.
Exterior and Interior Design
Like its name suggests, the 2015 Donkervoort D8 GTO Bare N. Carbon Edition is made mostly of the carbon fiber material, which is present from the headlights housings to the rear bumper. The company uses the latest techniques and developments in the field of composite materials to ensure that every piece of carbon-fiber is of the highest standards. There’s an option of a matte or gloss finish, with custom colored accents. The hood is pretty long, front wheels are sticking out from the body under the fenders, while the cockpit is open. The side-exhaust is protruding from the passenger-side, but there are also two exhaust tips on the back.
This D8 GTO special edition is larger than its predecessors, it is 13.8-inch longer and 15.9-inch wider, but these extra dimensions don’t make this model much heavier, thanks to the use of a carbon fiber and aero-derived technology. A set of the 17-inch wheels reduces the total weight even further, because those are made of forged aluminum. There are also optional 18-inch alloy wheels.
Interior of the 2015 Donkervoort D8 GTO Bare N. Carbon Edition is also made with composite materials, with door panels and sills, bolstered sport seats, window frames, and dashboard all made of carbon fiber. The design is made with minimalist theme and not much investing in the comfort, and that means inside there are two-seat with leather upholstery and that is everything what can be said about comfort. This model is equipped with racing harnesses, control switches, digital readout and aviation-themed buttons. One might say that this car is made for a chill driving in the city and not for longer journeys.
Engine, Specs, 0-60 MPH, Transmission
Under the hood of the 2015 Donkervoort D8 GTO Bare N. Carbon Edition you can find a 2.5L R5 TFSI engine with the capacity to produce 380 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, which is supposedly enough power to allow the car to sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds. This sports car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission with a Torsen limited-slip differential, sending all the power to the rear axle. The suspension goes with an independent double wishbone, which includes a separated adjustable 12 mm anti-roll bar in the front and trailing arms in the back.
2015 Donkervoort D8 GTO Bare N. Carbon Edition Price
The Dutch automaker is already taking orders for this special edition model, and the first owner who got his unit delivered is from Switzerland. Although the car has already been sold, we still don’t know its exact price. Some sources claim that the 2015 Donkervoort D8 GTO Bare N. Carbon Edition starts at about $170 thousands in the Netherlands. The expected price for this model can be at least $200,000.
The company offers various customization options which can easily make the price even higher. Since the main rivals of this model are the Ariel Atom 3.5R and the KTM X-Bow GT, the price can actually be one of the problems for this model. It is quite expensive. Putting this sports car next to its competitors, it’s hard to see why pay more money for this model, when the competitors are as equally fast and they are much cheaper.
