BMW has unveiled a new design for the 2015 BMW X6, which underwent a major redesign in 2012. It hit the crossover market with its elegant design and boosted performance. The 2nd generation model made its debut at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show and went on sale last fall. The more sporty M variant will go on sale this spring.
Redesign of BMW X6 2015
Both the BMW X5 and X6 models share their platform. The overall weight has been cut down by about 200 pounds, with major dimensions of the vehicle remaining the same as the current model. The exterior design of the new 2015 BMW X6 is a replica of the X5 with minimal noticeable changes. Classy headlights and large kidney grille help transform its new appearance. Fog lights are located at the front side of the vehicle. A coupe variant concept is depicted by its sloped backwards carried over from the current model.
SUV‘s dimensions are as follows: 4900 mm-length, 1700 mm-height and 1980 mm-wheelbase. Lightweight materials have been used for the construction of this model, increasing the performance and handling of the vehicle. It retains an aggressive look with the new details creating a unique line. The large wheelbase increase the cabin space offering more leg and head room for rear passengers. Placed vertically is the new front grille, differentiating this model from its 2013 counterpart.
The interior design of the 2015 BMW X6 features high quality material creating a warm ambiance in the cabin. The German automaker went a notch higher in by installing high tech systems in the cabin. A large 10.2-inch display makes it easy for the driver to access and interact with the navigation and iDrive operating system. This model also features advanced safety and security equipment. The interior and seats will come in six different color options.
Engine, Specs, Performance
The new model features the same engine unit as the new X5 model. The 2015 BMW X6 is powered by a 4.4L V-8 engine delivering a power of 445 hp and torque of 480 lb-ft. An extra power unit will also be offered: a 3.0L twin-turbo engine with six cylinders pumping out 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft torque. A hybrid version will certainly be offered. However, this hybrid model will be modeled from the X5. The M variant comes with a 4.4-liter V-8 that generates 567 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of twist. The xDrive35i and sDrive35i models with 3.0-liter unit are able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds. The xDrive50i model with 4.4-liter powertrain can sprint to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, while the M model can do that in 4 seconds. All these models are paired with a Steptronic 8-speed automatic transmission.
2015 BMW X6 Prices
This model officially went on sale in the fall of 2014; while the 2015 BMW X6 M variant will go on sale this spring. The base xDrive35i model has a starting price of $61,900 while the xDrive50i is priced at $72,900. The M variant will most likely be priced at $103,050, not including all the fees.
