The 2015 BMW 3 Series Plug-In Hybrid concept has been spotted during testing on the snowy roads. Check out these spy shots of the upcoming PHEV and see how the production model might look like.
2015 BMW 3 Series Plug-In Hybrid Design
In the pictures in the gallery after this article you can see that the 2015 BMW 3 Series Plug-In Hybrid prototype model has very little or no camouflage at all. It previews the upcoming hybrid model expected to be released in the near future.
In some images, it can be seen that the part at the front left wheel is covered with black tape. No need to guess what was hidden, as in other photos you can clearly see that it is a port for charging this plug-in hybrid sedan. The front door to the left has a label that indicates that this is a Hybrid Test Vehicle.
Someone might be wondering what this guy is talking about, why is he talking about unimportant things such as labels and charging ports? Well, aside from these little things, this car is no different compared to the regular model. Here is a picture of both models, so you can compare them.
I don’t have any details about the interior styling, nor do I know what kind of technology will all be included in this model. Expect some details in the near future.
Hybrid Engine, Specs, Performance
No details of the performance of the model, because no one expected that BMW is planning to release a hybrid version of the 3 Series. Some sources suggests that the 2015 BMW 3 Series Plug-In Hybrid will be powered by the same or similar engine that can be found in the BMW X5 eDrive Concept. However, the sedan is expected to have more impressive performance as it is significantly lighter and more aerodynamic.
For the sake of comparison, it should be mentioned that the X5 eDrive Concept is powered by a combination of turbocharged inline-4 engine and 67-kWh electric motor that is able to produce 95 horsepower. It is able to reach the top speed of 155 mph on gasoline engine. It can travel about 19 miles just on electric motor with maximum speed of 75 mph.
We expect the 2015 BMW 3 Series Plug-In Hybrid to have significantly better performance, so expect an all-electric drive range of about 25 miles, higher top speed and better fuel efficiency.
BMW 3 Series Hybrid Release Date
The exact release date of the new 2015 BMW 3 Series Plug-In Hybrid is not known. It is possible that this model will be officially presented later this year, if not before, and that will go on sale in 2015.
