At the 2014 Chicago Auto Show was presented the new 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid. This model features a slightly modified body in order to be more aerodynamic. Keep reading to learn all the needed details about this beautiful vehicle.
The 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid has not been changed much in comparison to a regular sedan model. Moreover, both models feature similar updates of the exterior. At first glance, one can notice that the front end is slightly different. There are additional air vents on the front bumper, just next to the fog lights, in order to improve the air flow. The rest of the car is more or less the same as on standard model. There is an addition of LED lights just above the headlights, and above them extend two lines through the hood all to the windshield. The hybrid model also gets the new lightweight wheels, which are designed to lower the drag and to improve vehicle stability. It will be available in two trim levels: LX and EX. Overall, the car looks really elegant. You can check out more photos in the photo gallery below this article.
Given the number of buttons and controls on the dashboard, the interior looks like the cockpit of an airplane. The 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid features a lot of technology updates. Between the air vents on the center console there is an 8-inch display that shows details about the car and GPS navigation. It also features SiriusXM satellite and HD radio, UVO eServices, as well as traffic info by SiriusXM. Below the screen and on the steering wheel there are many management controls and buttons. Behind the wheel there is another display, a smaller 4.3-inch LCD screen that also shows some details about the car’s performance and fuel efficiency. Both the satellite and HD radio, as well as your own music, can be listened to via an 8-speaker Infinity sound system. You can enjoy music during long rides. Of course, there’s plenty of room for both the driver and front passenger, as well for rear passengers. All of them are protected by many airbags positioned in the front and on both sides, in case of an accident.
Engine, Specs, Performance
It is implied that this hybrid vehicle is powered by a combination of two engines. The gasoline engine that powers the car is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder powertrain that is able to produce 152 horsepower. In a combination with an electric motor that is able to develop 47 hp, the 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid is able to produce 199 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque. Not perfect, but not bad either. Engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. To power the electric motor is used a 47-kWh lithium polymer battery. This battery generates more power and it is lighter (91 pounds), which is only an advantage, because thus the car is lighter. That increases maximum range and efficiency (LX trim it is rated at 36/40/38 mpg city/highway/combined, while the EX trim is rated at 35/39/37).
2014 Kia Optima Hybrid Price
The 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid was released last year. The base LX model can be purchased for the price of $25,995, while the EX models are priced at $31,995.
